Quddwah is Royal Ascot-bound once more, and Simon and Ed Crisford look to have their classy miler ticking along nicely.
Three trips to Berkshire have yielded two wins and a solid fifth in last season’s QEII on Champions Day, and his prep this time came on foreign soil with a stylish Listed success at ParisLongchamp.

“He’s come out of really well,” reported Ed Crisford. “It was a strong Listed race, and the manner in which he won it should leave him spot on for Ascot.”
The Queen Anne promises to be its usual acid test for older milers, but the stable feel Quddwah is entitled to his place in the line-up.
“It’ll be red-hot, no doubt,” Crisford continued, “but he’s earned a crack at it. He’s got solid course form—he won the Summer Mile last year and wasn’t disgraced in the QEII either. That day he was held up and ran on late for fifth. This time, he’s got a bit more experience of the top level, and we think he’ll be wiser for it.”
There was also an update on Arabian Dusk, a filly who made a mark at two and has shaped like one on the cusp of a breakthrough this term. Third in the Symbol Of Honour in the Sandy Lane at Haydock last time out.
“She’s in great order,” said Crisford. “All being well, the Commonwealth Cup will be next.”
It’s rarely a straightforward route for three-year-old fillies in the early summer calendar, with few chances to avoid the colts, but Arabian Dusk hasn’t looked out of place against the boys.
“The programme doesn’t do them many favours at this stage of the year,” he added, “but she’s more than holding her own. A stiff six at Ascot will suit her down to the ground. It’ll be a proper race—but if she brings her A-game, she won’t be far away.”
